England Under-19s gear up for opening Youth ODI in Chelmsford

Charlie Allison warmed up for England Under-19s’ opening Youth ODI at The Cloud County Ground on Friday by hitting 56 in a thrilling warm-up win over a Young Lions Invitational XI yesterday.

With Luc Benkenstein and Noah Thain also in the side, Allison’s 50-ball knock, which included seven fours and three sixes, was second only to Rocky Flintoff’s 106 in England’s total of 290-8.

England captain Benkenstein also chipped in with a valuable 25 from just 18 deliveries, and that helped the Three Lions narrowly overhaul the 288 they had been set with eight balls to spare.

After Benkenstein had won the toss and elected to field, his own return of 1/27 from six overs helped England bowl the Invitational XI out in 48.1 overs.

His wicket was that of Thomas Rew, who was caught off a top edge by Thain at first slip for six, having aimed a sweep at Benkenstein’s leg-spin.

Tickets are still available for this Friday in Chelmsford, and with Essex’s up-and-coming young trio in good form, a thrilling match awaits under the lights at The Cloud County Ground.
