Summary
Captain Kelly Castle’s battling 28 not out was not enough for Essex to chase 136 against Sussex in the first match of a Vitality Women’s County T20 double-header at Harpenden CC.
Castle hit her runs off 27 balls and found support from Jasmine Westley’s 24, but Anna Buckle and Beth Harvey each claimed two wickets as the Sharks restricted Essex to 116-5 in reply to their 135-5.
Grace Poole had earlier sent down a restrictive four overs in which she conceded just nine runs, but Sussex’s total proved to be enough as Chiara Green made a 26-ball 48 and Nancy Harman hit 43.
