With winter having firmly set in in England, many Essex players from both the men’s and women’s sides have jetted out to play in sunnier countries.
Read on for a handy guide to whereabouts in the world every international Eagle has flown to.
Men’s Team
Australia: Charlie Allison, Noah Thain
Allison is in north-east Melbourne, representing Deepdene Bears in the second-grade Wright Shield of the Eastern Cricket Association.
Meanwhile, Thain has turned out in three matches in the North East 1st XI grade for Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association side Coburg, also in the northern Melbourne suburbs.
Guyana: Adam Rossington
Rossington is part of the Lahore Qalandars squad for the inaugural Global Super League T20 tournament, being held in Guyana between 26 November and 06 December.
Nepal: Luc Benkenstein, Matt Critchley
Benkenstein has been signed up by the Chitwan Rhinos in the inaugural Nepal Premier League, being played in the south Asian nation between 30 November and 21 December.
Also playing in that league, for Pokhara Avengers, is Matt Critchley; both Chitwan and Pokhara are central Nepal cities located just west of the capital, Kathmandu.
South Africa: Robin Das
Das, in an identical move to last winter, has based himself on South Africa’s west coast, playing for Cape Town Cricket Club in the Western Province Cricket Association Premier League.
United Arab Emirates: Sam Cook
Cook, under the coaching guidance of incoming Essex Director of Cricket Chris Silverwood, is part of the Delhi Bulls squad who qualified for the play-offs of the Abu Dhabi T10.
Women’s Team
Australia: Grace Scrivens, Jodi Grewcock, Sophie Munro
Scrivens was recently part of Melbourne Renegades’ title-winning squad in the Women’s Big Bash League, and following the conclusion of that tournament, she is now set to play on a short-term basis for Adelaide CC.
Also in Adelaide is Grewcock, who is representing Glenelg CC in the south-west of the city and has so far played two games in the Kookaburra Women’s 1st Grade T20.
The Essex trio currently down under is rounded out by Munro, who is based in inner-west Perth, at Subiaco-Floreat CC in the Female A Grade of WA Premier Cricket.
