Simon Harmer Reaches 1,000 First-Class Wickets

 

Essex Cricket’s Simon Harmer has notched a monumental milestone in his illustrious career, claiming 1,000 first-class wickets to cement his name as one of the modern greats.

The 35-year-old off-spinner reached the stellar milestone in Rawalpindi during the second Test of South Africa’s tour of Pakistan, dismissing Noman Ali to take his 1000th first-class wicket. He finished with match figures of 8-125, helping the Proteas to an eight-wicket victory.

Harmer has become just the fourth South African player to take 1,000 first-class wickets.

Since joining Essex in 2017, Harmer has been at the heart of the Club’s success, playing a pivotal role in multiple trophy-winning campaigns and establishing himself as one of the most consistent and respected bowlers in the game. His performances for the Club has meant he has become a firm favourite among Essex Members and supporters.

Renowned for his control, competitiveness, and match-winning ability, the South African has taken over 500 of his 1,000 first-class wickets in Essex colours, with a third of those coming at Chelmsford!

– 513 for Essex.
– 278 for Warriors.
– 64 for Northerns.
– 59 for Eastern Province.
– 52 for South Africa Test XI.
– 28 for South Africa A.
– 6 for South African International XI.
All were achieved across 234 first-class matches, including 12 Tests.

This remarkable achievement places Harmer among an elite group of bowlers to have reached four figures in first-class wickets in the professional game which is a testament to his endurance, skill and unwavering commitment to excellence.
