Varun Chopra has left Warwickshire to join Essex, ahead of the final two matches of the 2016 season.
Chopra signed a three-year contract with the Club in August, but will now be available for the matches against Glamorgan and Kent in the Specsavers County Championship later this month.
Chopra said: “Essex has always been a special place for me, it’s where I learnt all my cricket growing up.” “It was a place I always wished to come back to at some stage during my career, and hopefully by using my Division 1 experience I can help the boys over the line and back into the top flight.”
Essex Head Coach, Chris Silverwood expressed: “We are really pleased to welcome Varun into the squad earlier than expected.”
“The squad is fully focused on getting over the line and achieving promotion, so adding someone of Varun’s quality and experience to the squad gives us further options with our batting.”
The Club would like to thank Warwickshire for allowing Varun to join up with his new colleagues.
Varun will be available for selection in Essex next match against Glamorgan, starting on Monday 12 September at The Essex County Ground. Come and see Essex’s hunt for promotion with tickets available now, priced £15 Adults, £10 Young Adults and £5 Juniors. More Information – here.
