Simon Harmer has been named the DeVines Player of the Month for May after picking up 89% of the votes, beating Varun Chopra, Alastair Cook and Jamie Porter to the award.
The South African was excellent with the ball during May, taking 19 Championship wickets in just two matches. In the first game against Nottinghamshire, Harmer took 8 wickets and was instrumental as Essex won by 8 wickets. The following week against Kent, the spinner somehow improved and took 11 wickets, with 8 of them coming in the second innings. In that second innings, he bowled 32.5 overs and recorded 8 maidens whilst going at a notable economy of 2.99.
His outstanding performances also saw him named the PCA Player of the Month for May.
