Essex bowler Sam Cook, who left the field during Hampshire’s second innings on Monday, has sustained a side injury.
Four balls into his second over, the 21-year-old pulled up and had to leave the field, with Simon Harmer bowling the two remaining deliveries.
Cook is to undergo a scan later today to discover the full extent of the injury.
Essex’s wicket-keeping problems have been boosted by the return Adam Wheater, who featured against Hampshire for the first time since injuring his thumb in the reverse fixture on the opening day of the 2019 season.
Wheater has now fully recovered and is back to full fitness ahead of a busy schedule in both the Specsavers County Championship and the Vitality Blast.
