It’s one the memorable moment of any cricketers career when awarded a cap and thus was certainly the case for Dan Lawrence this week.
After hearing the news that he would be selected to make his debut in the 1st Test against Sri Lanka, it was down to a former teammate to do the honours.
James Foster was Essex captain when a 17-year old Dan Lawrence made his Essex debut in 2015. It was only fitting that the now England coach should be the person chosen to present his England cap after a special speech amongst the squad.
Dan marked his first innings hitting an impressive 73, which included a 173-run partnership with captain, Joe Root.
