Match Report:
A third-wicket partnership of 136 between Hamza Khan and Omaris Khan helped Warwickshire to victory over Essex in the final of the ECB U14 County Cup.
The former Khan made 72 in 91 balls with ten fours, and was only bettered within his side by the latter, who hit an unbeaten 86 off 105 as the young Bears chased down Essex’s 202 all out in 42.2 overs.
Opener Shahariyar Chaudhry top-scored for the young Eagles after they won the toss, hitting 39, but despite Xander Silverwood and Aayush Baluja also passing 30, the Warks attack succeeded in taking ten wickets.
Jack Pidgeon led the way, returning figures of 3/37, while Charlie Taylor and Edward Miller evenly split four more scalps between them.
It was only a ninth-wicket stand of 54 between Silverwood, whose 37 came in just 27 deliveries, and Aditya Singh, who made 20, that helped Essex pass 200.
In reply, Singh took two wickets to be the pick of the young Eagles’ attack, with Navine Sureshan and Prajen Kavinkumar picking up one apiece.
However, it was the efforts of the two Khans, which included Omaris hitting the winning four, that guided Warks to victory.
