Match Report:

Hugely impressive batting performances from Robin Das, Ali Zeb and Feroze Khushi paved the way for Essex’s crushing innings and 174-run v Second XI Championship victory over old adversaries Kent at Billericay Cricket Club.

Das claimed a starring role by scoring 214 off 215 balls during an incredible 309-minute stint at the crease. The 21-year-old right-handed batter hit no less than twenty-seven 4s and four 6s as Essex responded to Kent’s first innings total of 249.

At just 16, Zeb also caught the eye and batted with maturity beyond his years with 114 from 143, while Khushi again provided a glimpse of his undoubted talent with 75 with Essex racking up a huge 596 for eight before the declaration came.

Earlier, skipper Jack Leaning had top-scored for the visitors with 101. Aaron Beard (15-5-37-3) and Zak Evans (13.2-2-62-3) did much of the damage for Essex with the ball.

The chase was always going to be way beyond the visitors, although Tawanda Muyeye provided a plucky 60 from 47. However, Aron Nijjar led the way with six for 30 from 13.5 overs, while Beard took his match figures to five for 76 to ensure a comfortable success for the hosts with some to spare.
