Jamie Porter voted August Player of the Month

Your votes have secured seam bowler Jamie Porter the title of August’s wefinanceanycar.com Player of the Month.

Porter, who recently became the first man in 24 years to claim 500 first-class wickets for Essex, took 35.2% of the vote, ahead of fellow contenders Jamal Richards, Robin Das, and Luc Benkenstein.

Against Surrey in the Metro Bank One Day Cup at The Cloud County Ground, Porter returned from an injury that had ruled him out for a month to lead the Essex attack with figures of 2/45 from ten overs.

He then followed up with the second-best figures of his List A career, taking 4/34 in the final match of the One Day Cup against Sussex as the Eagles ended with back-to-back victories.

Returning to Vitality County Championship action towards the end of the month, he then tore through Worcestershire’s top order in their first innings to return figures of 5/52.

In all, despite having not played for five weeks before his return against Surrey, the 31-year-old picked up 12 wickets across all formats in August at a miserly average of just 14.17.
