Essex County Cricket Club is pleased to announce all-rounder, Paul Walter, has signed a contract extension that will see him remain at the Club until the end of the 2019 season.
The 23-year-old has been rewarded for a number of impressive performances, across all formats, since his emergence from Essex League cricket.
A talented left-arm opening bowler and destructive batsman, Walter burst onto the scene in the NatWest T20 Blast but also featured in five red-ball matches as Essex clinched the County Championship.
Walter had no hesitation in committing his future to the Club and said: “It was an easy decision to extend my time with the Club. I am an Essex man, and to have the chance to play for my home County has been amazing.
“Ever since I have been in the professional environment I believe it has quickened my development, but I need to continue to work hard over the next couple of years. Working with Chris (Silverwood) every day has helped me develop a number of skills and I feel I can go on to become a genuine all-rounder for this Club.
“It has been an incredible season and we all feel this could be the start of something special so it is great to be a part of it going forward.”
Head Coach Chris Silverwood is equally delighted to see Walter sign a contract extension and added: “Paul has shown considerable development ever since he signed his first professional contract. He is a tall, quick left-armer which is a useful asset for any team and if he continues to work hard he will be an important part of this Club for years to come.
“His good work so far has certainly been recognised as he will head to South Africa with the ECB Pace Programme this winter and that will again help him learn and develop skills that will take his game to another level.”
