The Essex Eagles continue with their Royal London One-Day Cup campaign on Tuesday when Sussex Sharks visit The Cloudfm County Ground.
The Eagles got back to winning ways with a convincing victory over Hampshire by 111 runs, a result that carried them to within 2 points of third place in Group B.
With just three matches left to play in the qualifying round, all-rounder Matt Coles is confident that the Eagles can still progress to the knockout stages of the competition.
He said: “If we play cricket like we did against Hampshire, there is no reason why we can’t win the rest of these matches.
“We all believe in each other in the dressing room and we will be fighting to the bitter end. Hopefully, we’ll come out on top and sneak a place somewhere down the line.”
Coles made his first List A appearance of the season on Sunday and played a leading role in defeating Hampshire with figures of 4 for 48, his best List A figures for the county.
Ravi Bopara and Ryan ten Doeschate both scored 89 and Coles acknowledged their pivotal part in the victory.
Coles said: “They set it up nicely and we scored 120 runs in the last ten overs and that was where the game turned.
“But credit to everyone in the whole team because it was a great team performance rather than individuals.”
The Eagles have named a 16-man squad that includes Varun Chopra for Tuesday’s fixture. The opener, who scored back-to-back centuries against Glamorgan and Middlesex, has been side-lined since with a quad injury for the past week.
