Essex are heading out to Abu Dhabi for two weeks of pre-season training in early March and Anthony McGrath’s side will be playing several matches against Somerset.
Red and white-ball fixtures have been confirmed, whilst other various training programmes will take place before the team fly back home for the final preparations ahead of the new season.
Head Coach Anthony McGrath is looking forward to the trip, and said: “It feels like a long time since the 2021 season finished and the pre-season tour signifies the beginning of a new campaign and six months of cricket.
“The players and backroom staff will all be back together, and the warm weather training does everybody the world of good, whilst you can feel the anticipation and excitement ahead of the new season.
“We’ve got fixtures in all formats pencilled in against Somerset, which is always a challenge. We’ll be using those matches to get ourselves organised and sharp ahead of the new campaign and ensure that when things get underway against Kent, we’ll be as prepared as possible.”

Wednesday 09 March: Intra-squad T20 match
Friday 11 March: 2 x T20 matches v Somerset
Sunday 13 March: 45-over match v Somerset
Tuesday 15 – Wednesday 16 March: Two-day red-ball match v Somerset
England:
Wednesday 23 – Thursday 24 March: Intra-squad two-day red-ball match
Thursday 31 March – Saturday 02 April: Three-day red-ball match against Middlesex
