Community Cricket Champions – May

As part of our Inspire, Reward and Recognition plan for 2024, we are continuing with our Community Cricket Champions programme to reward and recognise those community volunteers the game couldn’t do without.

These volunteers are recognised from within the clubs and wider community organisations for their work and commitment to support the game within their local community.

Between May & September 2024, we will be recognising volunteers per month across the county for their contributions in a particular field including Grounds Maintenance, Women & Girls, National Programmes, Community Hubs & Club Committees.

As well as their monthly prizes, all the recognised Community Cricket Champions will be entered into a draw to win a kit bag for their clubs.

For May, our category was Grounds Maintenance, which is quite apt considering the weather that we have had over the pre-season and early season period so far. Selected by the Essex County Cricket Board Grounds Association Committee, our 6 Community Cricket Champions for May are:

Shiraaj Burah – South Woodford CC
Patrick Moore & Charlie Stockton – Mistley CC
Andy Jarrett – Benfleet CC
Peter Canning – Writtle CC
Peter Day – Epping Foresters CC

Congratulations to the above your fantastic contributions. We will be out and about across the county presenting the recognition awards to our Community Cricket Champions over the next few weeks, so please watch out our social media channels.

The June category will be based around Women & Girls Cricket, with the winner being announced in early July.
