Adam Zampa Set For Eagles Return in 2019

Essex County Cricket Club are delighted to announce that Australian international leg-spinner, Adam Zampa, has re-signed with the Club for the 2019 Vitality Blast, including any potential matches in the later knockout stages of the competition.

The 26-year-old was the leading wicket-taker for the Eagles during the 2018 campaign, taking 12 wickets at an average of 20.75.

The Australian becomes Essex’s second signing this week, after Cameron Delport joined for the 2019 and 2020 Vitality Blast campaigns on benefitting from his UK Ancestry visa.

Zampa is a regular in Australia’s ODI and T20 sides and has represented franchises around the world such as Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash and Rising Pune Supergiants in the Indian Premier League.

Zampa is excited about returning to The Cloudfm County Ground and said: “I’m looking forward to getting back to Chelmsford and playing in front of that great crowd again.

“We didn’t perform to the levels we were capable of last year and that’s something we all want to put right. The Club and the fans deserve a good campaign and that’s what we’ll aim to deliver.”

Head Coach Anthony McGrath is also thrilled to see Zampa return and said: “We saw how talented Zamps is with the ball last year and he’s one of the best leg-spinners around at the moment.

“He was excellent for us last season and he’s a great lad to have around the changing room, so we’re thrilled he’s going to be back with us from July.”

Essex’s Overseas signings are in partnership with Seven Investment Management, the Eagles’ Vitality Blast shirt sponsor.

ESSEX SPREAD FESTIVE CHEER AT BROOMFIELD HOSPITAL

Members of the Essex first-team and Ability squad visited the Phoenix Ward at Broomfield Hospital earlier today to spread festive cheer ahead of the Christmas period.

Essex stars such as Jamie Porter, Nick Browne, Matt Coles and Sam Cook were all in attendance, whilst Ronnie Jackson and Toby Howe visited on behalf of the Ability team.

The players played the role of Father Christmas for the afternoon, giving out Essex Cricket goody bags and gifts whilst also posing for photos.

Essex opening bowler Jamie Porter was more than happy to make the trip and said: “It’s really rewarding to be here visiting the families at Broomfield Hospital.

“We spoke to a few children who are going to be in the hospital over the Christmas period. It’s heart-breaking stuff, so if we can speak to them, put a smile on their faces, give them some presents and just spread a bit of joy then it makes it all worthwhile.

“Me and my teammates are in very privileged positions to be able to do what we do, so giving back to the local community is something we try to do as frequently as possible.”

Cameron Delport Joins The Eagles For Vitality Blast Campaigns

Essex County Cricket Club are thrilled to announce that left-handed batsman, Cameron Delport, has signed for the 2019 and 2020 Vitality Blast campaigns.

The 29-year-old will join the Eagles for a two-year stint from 1 July and will be available for Finals Day at Edgbaston on 21 September, should Essex advance that far into the competition.

Delport has featured for franchises all around the world, including Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash, Dhaka Dynamites in the Bangladesh Premier League and Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League.

Delport also played for Leicestershire Foxes during the 2016 season and scored 694 runs in their NatWest T20 Blast campaign, with his top score of 109* coming against Notts Outlaws at Trent Bridge.

Head Coach Anthony McGrath is elated to add Delport to the ranks and said: “We identified early on that we needed to add another batsman to the squad for the Vitality Blast and with all of his experience, Cameron fits the bill perfectly.

“He’s excelled in the global competitions and it’s a good match for both the Club and the player. We’re excited about the firepower he can add to the side and I’m sure he will excite the Chelmsford crowd.”

Delport is equally pleased to be heading to The Cloudfm County Ground and added: “I’m so happy to be joining Essex. The club has such an amazing history and tradition so I’m proud to be given the opportunity to get involved.

“There is a strong squad at Chelmsford and I hope to play my part in getting the Eagles to Finals Day come September. I can’t wait to get started.”

More Weekend Cricket Set for Chelmsford in 2019

The Club can announce two changes to the Specsavers County Championship fixture schedule.

Following the 2019 fixture announcement in November, and subsequent feedback from Members and supporters, the Club consulted with the ECB and other Clubs to increase the number of day’s cricket being played on a weekend.

After exploring all possibilities in a busy fixture schedule and taking into account other outside influences such as the ICC Cricket World Cup and team logistics, two matches have been rescheduled to start on Sundays.

The home Specsavers County Championship matches taking place in June will now start a day earlier than scheduled. This will create two further days of weekend cricket with the games against Hampshire and Somerset now beginning on Sunday 16 and Sunday 23, respectively.

The Club would like to thank Somerset and Hampshire for their cooperation and understanding.

The new campaign starts on Friday 5 April against Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl, with the opening home match at The Cloudfm County Ground taking place on Friday 19 April against Middlesex in the Royal London One-Day Cup.

Membership packages are now on sale for 2019, with Early Bird prices available when purchased in 2018. Visit essexcricket.org.uk for further information on the available packages, which start from just £176 for Adults.
